New schools provide stability and learning to school age children in South Sudan

As the world’s newest country, South Sudan continues to fight for political stability, leaving access to education as a lower priority. That’s one of the reasons why BRAC Africa Loan Fund is opening schools across South Sudan, in hopes of offering educational opportunities to children in the fledgling nation. And through community development investing, Praxis Mutual Funds® also is part of the effort – supporting BRAC’s efforts to give more children access to the magic of learning.

In one community with a BRAC-funded school, a primary-school student named Mary has been inspired to learn as much as possible and dreams of becoming a teacher. Before the school opened, Mary didn’t have access to education and spent most of her time looking after her younger siblings.

Her teacher, Ms. Mangel, works hard to ensure that the students and their families are devoted to education. At meetings with all of the children’s caretakers, she reports on the students’ academic progress and engages the children with fun, educational activities.

Praxis commits more than 1 percent of its funds to community development investing in partnership with Calvert Foundation, an impact-investing institution that helps people and communities around the world through community development financing.
